How to complete and issue a warrant

1. How do I complete a rail warrant?

Please click here for information on how to complete an ordinary rail warrant, or click here for information on how to complete a season ticket rail warrant.

2. Can I purchase tickets for more than one person using a rail warrant?

Yes, this is possible provided all of the travellers are making exactly the same journey. Each ticket issued will be identical as per the journey details requested on the rail warrant.

3. Can I purchase different tickets for different journeys using one warrant?

No, this is not possible. If a member of staff or client needs to make a journey that requires more than one ticket as it involves multiple routes then you will need to issue a warrant for each ticket to be issued.

If you are unsure on whether or not a particular travel request involves more than one ticket then please contact National Rail Enquiries on 03457 48 49 50 for journey and ticket information. From the information you receive you should be able to establish how many warrants are required. If you are still unsure then please contact the Warrant Account Manager at Rail Delivery Group at lee.grainger@raildeliverygroup.com

4. Can I issue a season ticket warrant for an ordinary daily ticket?

No, season ticket warrants can only be used for the purchase of season tickets only.

5. Can I issue an ordinary warrant for a season ticket?

No, ordinary warrants can only be used for the purchase of non-season tickets only.

6. Do I need a photocard when purchasing a season ticket?

Yes, all season ticket holders require a photocard which should accompany the season ticket at all times. If you do not have a photocard then you will need to have a passport size photograph. When you purchase your season ticket the station clerk will insert the photograph into your new photocard.

7. Is it possible to reserve seats when buying tickets using a rail warrant?

Yes you can reserve seats using a warrant if seats are reservable for the journey being made. Some tickets include a seat reservation and so in this case you can simply issue the warrant for the ticket only.

If the ticket does not include the seat reservation then you will need to issue a separate warrant completing the journey details and then in the 'Other Services' section, mark the warrant ‘seat reservation only’.

You will then need to exchange your warrant at the station. Reservations can normally be made from about 2 months in advance of the day of travel, up to about 2 hours before the train departs from its start point, or, for early morning trains, up to 1600 the previous evening. For more information on reservations please visit the reservations page on the National Rail Enquiries website.
